Portuguese Golden Visa Deadline extended until October!
More news on the Portuguese Golden Visa! Portugal President Vetoed Changes on the Program thus furthering extending the deadline for the new changes to go into effect.
On August 21st 2023, Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo vetoed the Golden Visa changes approved just last month by the Parliament.
“The President of the Republic returned to the Assembly of the Republic, without promulgation, the Decree approving measures in the field of housing, making several legislative changes, with the following message[…]”
According to the letter sent back to the Parliament President, Presidente Da Assembléia da República, Rebelo states that since March 9th 2023, when the new measurements were introduced, he found himself concerned about the risks of polarization, an overly optimistic speech, high expectations for the deadline and potential unrealistic projected results.
Furthermore, the President reassured the need for a wide debate amongst not only Private Investment Stakeholders, but one which secures a clear guideline of the five main points the new bill suggests. Crucially, the President reinforces that foreign private investment is a necessity for the country, referring to the Portuguese Golden Visa. Worrying that the current propositions stain Portugal’s reliable reputation, losing trust from private stakeholders.
He closes, affirming the current changes on Portugal’s Housing Bill are unclear and do not directly show where the promised housing supply would come from, efficiently and quickly.
Now, the Parliament will need to re-purpose the current bill and once again submit for evaluation. The industry, already assured the real estate pathway would end, now has an estimated 4-6 weeks more to guarantee Global Citizens their Portuguese Golden Visa under the investment popular option.
