As a digital nomad, choosing the perfect place to work remotely can be challenging. Remote Work Visa’s are emerging all over the globe, especially in Europe — the continent that coined the trend. Plenty of European countries have made it easier to live and work remotely without hassle. Through Europe’s Remote Work Visa’s, you can work and live in your desired country without worry of overstaying or breaking any immigration laws. The days of constant “border runs” are behind us, thankfully. In this blog post, we will highlight Europe’s top 5 digital nomad visas!

1. Portugal Digital Nomad Visa

Portugal is a beautiful country known for its stunning coastlines, rich culture, and delicious cuisine. The country has become a hotspot for digital nomads, mainly due to its friendly people, affordable cost of living, and excellent weather. Recognizing the digital nomad movement to Portugal, the government put many measures in place to accommodate the workers on the go. High speed internet infrastructure is continuously improved, although Portugal is known as having better more reliable speeds than European neighbours. Co-working facilities have popped up throughout the country. Madeira is home to the first actual digital nomad village. Porto has become the tech hub of Europe. And, in places like Sintra they’re working hard to make digital nomad families comfortable. It’s easy for us to place Portugal in the number one spot for all these reasons are more.

To apply for this European Remote Work Visa, applicants need to meet the following minimum requirements:

The residency is valid for up to one year and can be renewed for those that spend at least 8 months in the country. After 5 years of residency investors can apply for citizenship in Portugal.
